Tammy On Tuesday ~ Sun and Rain

Last night I stood looking out my bedroom window.  The sun was slowly falling from the sky and as it set a quiet rain fell.  I could see the sun in the drops and it created a magical glow.  I breathed out a sigh, “All is well.”

Yesterday was an emotionally charged day.  There were a lot of unexpected twists and turns.  Some good.  Some bad.  Several times in the day my feelings collided – sheer joy and despair all fighting for room in my heart.  Talk about conflict!  I prayed prayers but they were tainted with doubt.  I was certain there could be no answer to the problem at hand and was at work trying to come to a place of resignation to that fact.  Yet God had something else in mind.  Doesn’t He always?

That was how I found myself standing there in the window.  I just wanted to get alone and thank God for His faithfulness to me in all the matters of the day.  What a day!  As I stood there in thanksgiving, I felt God speaking to my heart, ” It’s just like sun and rain.”

Last week I read a devotional thought that came in handy just yesterday: The devotional reading from Indeed Devotional Magazine – Walk Thru The Bible from May 8, 2014:

“Life can be a struggle, but never let that struggle convince you that the Father is reluctant to bestow kingdom blessings.  He isn’t.  He looks forward to the gifts He gives, loves His own generosity, and delights in seeing smiles on the faces of His children.  Enter into everything He offers without reluctance.  Boldly ask for more insight, answers to prayer, and miraculous intervention.  He is pleased to provide all we need and more.”

See that?  Life brings struggles.  Life brings rain. When you hear rain is in the forecast you expect clouds and grey. That’s why it’s such a pleasant surprise to see the sun shine through the rain.   And the more I grow in God’s truth, the more I understand that He’s not so much interested in stopping the rain as He is in shining through it.

What circumstances are raining down on your life right now?  When the problems of this world meet up with the glory of God, the rain may fall but the Son still shines.

I stood at my window last evening, reflecting on the day.  How did God do it?  How did He work all things out for my good?  The circumstances at hand seemed impossible.  I didn’t deserve to see His glory.  At times I kicked and complained like a toddler.  And now, at the end of the day, I see His delight.  I see His faithful hand.  Not because of who I am but because of who He is.

Perhaps the rain is falling on you today.  I encourage you to call on your Father who delights to shine His light on you.  Ask Him to shine bright into the rain that’s falling.  The result is always glorious and good.
